Welcome to Year 2's Class Page!

    Autumn term

Autumn term is all about making a difference. In the first half term we learn about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and how they made a difference in nursing. We look at the geography of where they came from and in art, we use them as the basis for portrait drawing. Our focus in maths is securing number bonds and place value, making sure we can add and subtract within 20. In Autumn 2 we learn all about the Great Fire of London and write diaries as if we were there. We explore London and look at how it has changed over time. Everyone in year 2 will spend half a term at Forest school one afternoon per week.

    Spring term

In Spring 1 we are Superheroes! We use the book Traction Man as a springboard for lots of amazing Superhero writing. We focus on our 2,5,10 times tables and making sure we know them by heart. In Science we look at materials and their properties. In Spring 2 we go around the world, learning all about the continents and oceans of the world, as well as life in the polar regions. We learn to write letters, postcards and fact files all about different places around the world. This term in maths we also cover shape, fraction, measure and time.

    Summer term

Summer blooms when we learn all about plants in summer 1. We look at fairy tales with a twist and write some of our own unusual tales. We look at the journey of a bean from seed to plant, designing and making some of our own amazing bean recipes. In Summer 2 we get creative with minibeasts- we learn to use a green screen in ICT and create blogs about insects. We learn all about living things and their habitats and create large sculptures of our favourite ones.
